Congratulations to all of the swimmers who braved the chilly Pacific waters of the San Francisco Bay this morning to escape from Alcatraz and swim to the piers off the Golden Gate bridge in Sharkfest 2016: Escape From Alcatraz! I am especially proud of my daughter Kelly Birtwell, and her good friend Leslie Neil - swimming buddies for years, who braved the frigid waters and made the swim! Good job everyone!
So much for "no one has ever escaped from The Rock!" Several hundred did this morning.
