Mary's attitude.
Anyone that has ever been pregnant knows that while there is extreme excitement at the beginning, as the time of delivery comes - bringing with it swollen ankles, shooting nerve pains, morning sickness (yes, you can have it at the end too), backaches, headaches, always going to the bathroom, can't get full enough, can never get comfortable - sometimes that excitement fades.
Pregnancy is work. It's hard to bring forth a tiny little human into the world, forming its very being inside of you for all of that time. And for us humans, that is when the complaining sets in. Throw on top of that serious change in plans, and you can have a serious change in attitude. I can only imagine what my reaction would have been.
The Bible doesn't tell us anything about the trip, other than Mary and Joseph took it, as they were required to do by the law of the land they lived in. They were obedient. Not only to God, but to the rulers of their land.
Are you obedient? To the government, and to God?
If God wants you to go a certain direction, with either your story or your life, are you willing to do that? And without complaint?
It's the complaint thing that gets me. I find myself identifying more with Job sometimes. Yes, I will follow God, but I will let everyone know if I am miserable.
Time to change my attitude, and be more like what Christ teaches me to be. I think for Christmas I want a change of heart.
