How can we be more efficient as writers? Here's one way.
Try to plan your week out in advance, as much as you can, so you will save time running around.
Make stops either on your lunch, or on the way home from work, if you are still employed.
Do all of your errands in one part of town, or within a few miles of each other, on one day. Save the ones across town for a time when you will be out there for another reason. that is, if you can.
Also, I mentioned before, get others to help you. Children with new driver's licenses are great for running errands. Bribery works extremely well in this department.
Before you get in the car to trek across town for something, ask yourself, do I really need this today? My keyboard went out and my favorite electronics store is literally all the way across town. I could have run out there one day after work (about halfway there but instead I chose to go Sunday right after church. It was literally about 2 miles away. And since I choose to go to church that far away (another long story) I muddled through and waited until then to go get it. Convenience, and the price of gas won out.
What errands can you combine to save time? And what can you go without for a few days, if not at all. Learn to think in terms or "needs" rather than "wants". You can save yourself both a lot of time, and money in the long run.
