Rachael Ray has a show on Food Network called Week in a Day. It is really an awesome show where she shows you how to meal prep for an entire week in advance, saving you both time and money during the week.
The premise is simple. Shop in bulk, and cook in advance. You make one protein, or main part of a dish in a large batch, then divide it up for the week. For example, chicken. Take a large bulk package of chicken. Grill some, steam some, fry some, and then package it all up in 5 separate packages. Then pull one out for each night and you have a base for several meals. you can then make, chicken soup, chicken enchiladas, chicken and dumplings, etc. You get the idea.
This same idea can go for meal prep at work too. Cut up an entire bag of carrots into slices. divide it up into 5 baggies for the week. Then each day when you leave for work, grab one bag (plus whatever else you want) and you have a fresh, healthy, nutritious snack for the week, in not much more time than it would take you to do it for just one day.
Think about shopping in larger quantities and dividing stuff up too. This is great for single meals too, not just large families. Either way you can save both time and money in the long run.
Thanks Rachael Ray! You're the best!
