The world seems to be filled with zombies these days, both literal and figurative. Last weekend my city hosted the Zombie 5K run for charity. You start the run/walk, but at some point begin to be chased by a zombie (a person dressed as the undead). If you get caught, then you must drop out of the race. Only the ones who managed to stay away from the zombie attackers will win the prize.
Zombies have always been part of the fantasy/horror movie subculture. They are the attackers, coming to rob you of your life, feelings, and happiness. Today they are more mainstream. The Arts and Entertainment Channel (A&E)™ even created their own original series called The Walking Dead™. It was a huge success.
So what does it really mean to be a walking dead? The Bible tells us that we are all dead without Christ. He is the only way to eternal life. Without Him we have no hope. We are true Zombies.
In Hell, there is eternal torment and suffering. There is no future, no rescue, and no hope. Just like the Zombies that we see walking around on movie sets and fun runs, there is no feeling and no direction. They simply exist. I don’t know about you, but that’s not good enough for me. Eternal life has been handed to me, no strings attached.
…I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
Don’t settle for eternal death, when we have eternal life waiting. All we need to do is just say no to sin, and yes to eternal life.
In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
