But what happens when that edge of competition is never turned off? If you are not careful it can turn into a competition about life.
I have a bigger house than you do.
I make more money.
My kids are smarter than yours.
My job is better.
All of this boils down to one thing: I am better than you are.
Christ teaches that we are all the same. There is no one individual that is any better than any other. He came to die for us all. Yes, we are all called to different things in life, some more visible than others - but that by no means makes any one of us greater than the other.
"The first shall be last, and the last shall be first."
It's easy to let things like this get out of control. It takes a vigilant eye, and the ability to step in and shut it down when it starts. these are also traits that are easily passed on to the next generation.
So, if there is to be a competition among us, let us all strive to see the good in each other, rather than the perceived good in us. For in truth, God already sees it all.
Until next time:
Peace to you and yours,
