Once upon a time there was a wedding. And the wedding party ran out of wine.
Now this was no ordinary wedding. This was in the middle east, some 2000 + years ago. And, it was a wedding that would go on for days.
So, on one of the days, a guest looked at her Son and said: "they have run out of wine. Go and make some more for them."
Make some more? Is she crazy. First you have to find grapes, pick them, press them, and let them ferment. What was she talking about? There was no way this could be done in a few days... well, no earthly way. The Son did, however, ask of His mother, "Why do you ask me this, woman. My time has not yet come."
She simply look at the servants and said "Do whatever He tells you to do."
Now we all know this story. Jesus took some water in large jars and turned it into wine. And not just wine, very good wine. the wedding guests all commented that the bridegroom's family had saved the best wine for the last. But another thought struck me here.
How many other miracles had Mary witnessed to know that her son could do this? It's possible, and the Bible does not tell us, that she might have received some Divine Intervention from God to do this. But in seeing her reaction, I am inclined not to believe that. You see, Jesus scolded her, saying "Why are you doing this? My time has not yet come." She promptly ignored this and told the servants to obey him.
Now Mary knew that her Son would one day save His people. The angel had told her that earlier. But the angel never said anything about performing miracles. I am guessing that Jesus had shown her miracles privately that will never be revealed to us. How else would she know what He could do?
Just something to think about. Learn to see life differently.
