.It's New Year's day here in northern California. I woke up to a chilly morning (well, chilly for us). I went to the kitchen and gazed out my front window to see my neighbor sweeping up the broken pieces of her nativity scene. It sat in her front yard since right after Thanksgiving, until today. Now the figures of Mary, Joseph, and the newborn Christ child are shattered, never to be the same again. Broken pieces of the beautiful, tranquil scene sparkle all over her front entryway.
But this is what God does, isn't it? We serve a God of new beginnings. A God of second chances. And while we may be broken, sometimes beyond repair, He is always there to sweep up our shattered pieces to create a new beginning for us. Not a cracked, glued back together imperfect vision of who we used to be, but a newborn being in His own image. Unfortunatley for some of us, while things are going good, we have no need for God, so we ignore Him until... well... until we are shattered and have no hope of ever being the person we were before. That's when He steps in, sweeps up our broken pieces, and begins the miracle of reforming, remaking, redesigining, and rebuilding us, into a new creature. New wings can take us to new heights.
So, while we may never (and should never) forget our brokenness - here's to new beginnings in Christ!
