We have our "creature comforts", and live in our "comfort zones". When we have overstayed our welcome, we are told "don't get too comfortable," - a clear sign that change is on the way.
Some of us are very comfortable with God; too comfortable, in fact. We like our God-in-a-box religion. We take Him out to play when we feel like it, and put Him away, back up in that safe place until we need Him again. We are comfortable in life. We have our homes, cars, money, and family. What else could we need? We have all the comforts of a good life.
But God did not call us to be comfortable. He calls us to reach out to Him, and for Him. He wasn't comfortable hanging on the cross for me. He wasn't comfortable walking in sandals across hot sand to share His message so we could all hear. He wasn't comfortable walking into a dinner with his best friends, knowing that one of them would betray Him. He had no comforts of life as we know them today.
And yet, He came. And He came for me.
When I say to someone else, "I don't feel comfortable with that," I hope that I will always remember the one who gave up all comfort so that I could spend eternity with Him.
Don't get too comfortable. Change is on the way!
Until next time:
