Back in the saddle again:
Earlier this year on May 13th I crashed my motorcycle. At 30-40 mph, rounding a mountain curve, it threw me over 10 feet. My face impacted upon a tree stump (pictured). That morning I decided to use a brand-new full-face helmet, instead of the half-helmet style I’ve used for decades. The helmet shield cracked and I had a black-eye, but not a smashed face. The bike rotated sideways twice through the air, as did I. When I regained consciousness I saw my bike directly in front of me. It had landed on both wheels and leaned against a mileage marker. I sat on soft embankment, but not laying mortally wounded down one of the many ravines. The rider behind me remarked, “The bike should’ve landed on you.” Another trailing rider revealed to a friend, “Pete should not have survived.”
Now, after more than four months, I continue neck stretches and have more therapy ahead for my sprained hand. Yet, I’ll fully recover. So, how is it I walked out of ER that same day with no concussion and not a single broken bone? For me, the conclusion is inescapable: The unmerited favor of God.
