A couple of thoughts struck me. First, what is the song that was placed in your heart? What is your passion in life? We can all have one. I think God puts it there for us to find true meaning in life. Sometimes there is a struggle finding it. There are stories of traumatic events leading to finding a passion; like the rape victim that then dedicates his or her life to prevention and therapy for other victims. My sister had a traumatic dental experience when she was young, and this led to a career in dental assisting, helping other patients overcome their fears.
Others have a song born in their heart, and that song never changes. My daughter walked into the first day of kindergarten and told Mrs. Piersinski that she wanted to be a veterinarian and that has never changed. She was born with a natural love for all animals. That is a song in her that cannot be squelched. Today she is on her way to achieving that dream.
My point is two-fold. First, there is a passion and a drive build within you. If you have not discovered it yet, then it is waiting inside you to find it.
And second, change in inevitable. As we grow and experience life, we develop. I am not the same person I was when I was 17 years old, and neither are you. We should not be held to the standard of who we were many years ago. Our song has changed. Past mistakes and failures should be forgotten and the future should be embraced.
If you are living in the past, or holding someone else to the standard they were decades ago, then it is time to stop and think. Would I want someone to do that to me? I had a discussion recently with a person I have been at odds with for a very long time. This person brought up a situation when I was upset about something that had happened 35 years ago. They had been hanging on to that one circumstance and keeping it inside all of this time. Thought patterns like that prevent not only my own growth in their eyes, but their own ability to grow as well. Hanging on to the past is never a good thing.
We have a God with a future. God IS the future. He is the way, the truth, and the life, the gospels tell us. I pray that you will embrace that truth and that life, freeing yourself to find your passions and your dreams. Live life to its fullest.
Think it.
Dream it.
Do it.
And encourage each other on the way.
Until next time:
Peace to you and yours,
