Christ was tried and convicted. He was executed, and in doing so, He took the sins of the world upon himself. He conquered sin and death on the cross, voluntarily. Since He has done this, we can no longer be tried for our sins. Once they are confessed, they are forgiven. In hanging on to those wrongs and sins, we are putting ourselves on trial for a sin that has already been redeemed. Double Jeopardy. If our government is not allowed to do this, why should we?
Now being human, we love to beat ourselves up. We love to not only convict and judge ourselves, we like to do it to others too. What an insult to Christ! What a slap in the face to God. In doing this we are telling Him that what He did was not good enough. We do not acknowledge or accept His sacrifice for us. I don't know about you, but I am not prepared to do that.
Open your heart. Let out the bad, and take in the forgiveness that has been given so very long ago, but is still as fresh and new today as it ever has been. Only then can we be truly free.
