I don't think it's any accident that I had this revelation during Christmas week. In my Bible readings this week, I read about the Israelites and all of the mistakes they made again, and again, and again. They were a stiff-necked people who went so far off track that drastic measures had to be taken. Those drastic measures came in the form of a tiny Christ-child. A baby, a newborn, a savior to lead the world back to God the Father.
Throughout Biblical history mankind just keeps arrogantly making the same mistakes over and over again. Prophet after prophet were sent to warn them. People stood up and complained, but to no avail. The wrong doers were determined to continue their works, regardless of who it hurt and who was in their way. It still happens.
At Christmastime this is a double message. First we celebrate the birth of our tiny savior-king, the drastic measure that was required to get the world back on track. Unfortunately, He was not recognized by the masses for who and what He was during His life here, until He was already killed and risen. Many still do not acknowledge Him. His disciples knew though, and thanks to God they had the wherewithal to stand firm and tell us all about the messages Christ had given to them.
Second, Christmastime can be a stressful time within families. When we forget the true nature of the holiday and allow family bickering to get in the way, it can ruin what Christmas really means. In some families, the same *&*^ happens every year. It does in mine. History repeats itself.
But this year, Christ will remain at the center of it all. Chaos and turmoil can spin out of control around me, but I will stand firm in my Savior and my King. This day is for Him and Him alone, not for the turkey, or the presents, or who can be better than anybody else. This year history will take a new turn. It will turn toward Christ the King.
As for me and my house, we will worship the Lord.
