This is a question that has plagued me for some time. Probably because I find it true in my own life.
Life is hard now. I know people have always said that, but I truly believe it more than ever. There are stressors everywhere: job, home, friends, family, church, even at the grocery store and almost anywhere you can go in public anymore. From crime, road rage, fights with others, job loss, and dysfunctional relationships, life is hard.
When people come at me in a manner that I feel is unfair, the first thing I do is pull away. I draw away from that person for both of our sakes. I also tend to draw away from everyone else, so I can examine and take time for self-reflection. I analyze and over-analyze the situation to see what went wrong. What could have been done differently. And the most important, was I wrong?
The truth is it doesn't really matter who was right and who was wrong. If someone treats you disrespectfully, then boundaries are in order. But not boundaries with God.
This is the time that He wants us to run to Him the most. It is in this intimate time of reflection that we can have the deepest sight and most revelations about our individual situations. This is one case where distance does not make the heart grow fonder. I have been told that if you do not have time for God, then you are busier than He ever intended you to be. I believe this. Sometimes it is a chore to carve time out from a busy schedule, but it is vital.
If you want God to be there for you, then you need to be there for Him.
