Now why didn't I think of that?
Primarily because it doesn't work.
In divorce, this is known as the Disneyland Dad syndrome. One parent has all of the fun with the kids, while the other parent gets all of the disciplinary issues. The court system put a stop to this a long time ago. They recognized it as unfair and unduly burdensome on an already stressful situation. "Just do it!" might work for Nike, but it doesn't work in human relationships.
You cannot control your fears and hurts by controlling your circumstances. At the end of the day, no matter how much fun you have bought for yourself to forget your hurts, the same problems are there to greet you when you lay your head down and try to sleep.
We have to deal with the actual fears and the hurts. That's the only way to make them go away.
Sure, we can forget them for a while, but in the end, that does not heal anything.
