I went to a conference this past weekend called Reasonable Faith at River City Christian church in Sacramento. It was put on by the professors of Biola University - and it was awesome! They gave their scientific arguments for the existence of God and the creation of the universe, and the evidence was very compelling. There was so much information being thrown out that I will have to go back and listen to the podcasts that were made to get what I missed the first time. I could not soak it all up.
(Podcasts are available from iTunes. You don't have to have an iPod to listen to them. You can log in on your computer. Just search:
River City Christian, with this symbol and click on the podcasts titled Reasonable Faith.)
There are people that acknowledge God, or a Spiritual Being, higher power, etc., but have no interest in Jesus. This conference did an entire section on that too. Proof that Jesus not only existed, but was crucified, died, was buried, and rose again. Enough proof to satisfy our "beyond a reasonable doubt" requirement for the court system today.
For the hurt and angry, there was an entire section on why God allows evil in the world. Many people, if not all, have had bad things happen to them. some have faced evil and lived to tell about it. Many have suffered a loss so great that it has changed their entire world view. We need to have the information and answers for these people. But more than that, we need to go down into their dark places, and meet them where their pain is to show them the light. Hurting people have a different need altogether. Their pain is so great that they cannot see out of the pit. So just as Christ descended into Hell to defeat death, we must descend into our loved ones hurt and pain, in order to show them how to defeat it so they can rise again.
I highly recommend this conference to anyone who has the chance to attend it. If you cannot attend, find a recording or podcast to listen to. It is very worth your time.
Until next time:
